What to do if you feel uncomfortable wearing a mask?

Try this breathing technique:

Many people find it difficult to breathe when wearing a mask. In some cases, it is caused by physical problems such as shortness of breath or asthma. Wearing a mask is not necessary for them. But this problem is mostly mental. According to CBT Associates, a Canadian psychiatric services organization, a breathing exercise known as 'box breathing' can help alleviate this problem. In this process inhale for a count of 1-4, hold for a count of 4, exhale for a count of 4 and inhale for a count of 4. That is, inhale slowly, hold your breath for a few seconds and exhale slowly. It will calm your nerves, benefit the respiratory system and practice inhaling and exhaling with the mask.

Choose a comfortable mask:

Masks of different sizes and different materials are available in the market. Mask selection should prioritize protection over comfort. Surgical or medical masks are more effective in providing protection than cloth masks. These masks are lighter and thinner than cloth masks. And if you use a cloth mask, make sure that it has three layers. If the mask's rubber or elastic around the ears causes you discomfort, choose a mask with a cloth band. You can also opt for a mask that can be fastened at the back of the head with straps on the sides of the two ears. A plastic holder is available to attach the mask strap to the back of the head. Using it can also reduce discomfort.

Take a break:

If you feel very uncomfortable, take off the mask for a short time in the open air from a safe social distance or in a small space and breathe deeply. Then wear the mask again. It will reduce discomfort. However, do not remove the mask unless there is a crowd or a safe physical distance. Remember, before opening or wearing the mask, hands must be washed well with soapy water or disinfected with sanitizer.

Memorize the phrase “must wear a mask”:

It is scientifically proven that wearing a mask properly can protect you from Covid-19. So there is no substitute for masks. Even if you are vaccinated with a booster dose of covid, you still need to wear a mask outside the house for everyone's safety. So try to make wearing a mask a habit. All you have to do is convince yourself. If you and everyone around you are safe in your work, then it is better to try that.
